The White House announced a profound change in the way they deal with Suicides in the military. President Obama now sends letters of condolance, the same as he does for those who die in combat. 

Mental illness is now being addressed as never before with our troops. It is estimated that 71 percent of sucides occur after service.  The various branches are working extremely hard to reduce this number and address various mental illnesses such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
