Services are available to anyone regardless of age, race, religion, color, sex or national origin. If you live in one of the 20 counties that financially supports High Plains, you are eligible for services. Service fees are calculated on a sliding scale, based on family income and number of dependents supported by that income.

Services are confidential and nothing about you, including the fact that you or your family sought services will be disclosed unless you authorize disclosure in writing or disclosure is required by State law or disclosure is authorized through exceptions to the community mental health center confidentiality law.

Access to service can begin with a telephone call or a visit with staff at one of our full-time offices. Crisis calls are handled 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The completion of important admission documents and/or answering some questions about your situation will assist staff move forward to schedule an appointment with you.

High Plains offers a wide range of mental health and social support services. Services are organized and provided by clinical staff assigned to geographical locations or defined Programs within those locations. However, staff have the flexibility to work between and among locations and Programs to carry out a plan of service, designed to help meet the individual mental health needs of each client.

The Schwaller Center opened in June 2002 to provide individual mental health services in a secure, supervised setting. This service provides a voluntary, home-like environment for adults who are feeling overwhelmed by stressful situations and can benefit from temporary intensive mental health care. The goal of this service is to stop the progression of disabling symptoms, help an individual regain healthy coping skills and emotional stability, and return to prior living conditions with improved levels of functioning. In addition to 24-hour Individual Attendant Care services, clients participate in a full array of services offered by High Plains including psychiatric assessment, medication reviews, psychotherapy, community psychiatric supportive treatment and targeted case management.

Intensive, daily services for youth, in collaboration with USD 489, is available for school based mental health services in the immediate Hays area.
